Coral Digestion
Digestion in coral starts when it stretches out its tentacles to catch passing prey. Food is pushed into the mouth and down through the pharynx into the acontia (gut cavity). In this cavity enzymes break down the food into smaller particles. Part of the lining of the gut engulf the small particles where digestion is completed. Undigested food is passed back out the mouth opening.
