Sea Cucumber Digestion
Sea cucumbers diet is decaying organic matter found in the sea or food caught by the tentacles that surround their mouth when they position themselves in the current to catch food that flows by their tentacles. The tentacles move the food into the mouth and it moves through the mouth because it cannot chew. It then passes through the pharynx and esophagus to the stomach where digestion occurs. Nutrients are passed through the intestines where nutrients are absorbed and to the anus where it excretes anything that can't be digested.
