Octopus Digestion
An octopus catches its prey with its beak. The prey goes through the buccal mass (mouth) and passes through the esophagus and enters the crop where enzymes from the digestive glands break it down. The final breakdown of food happens in the stomach with the addition of more enzymes. Nutrients are absorbed in the caecum (stomach) and the intestines. The left over waste product is dispersed out of the anus.
