Mollusca
Mollusca comes from the Latin word "mollus" which means "soft."
Most molluscs have soft bodies usually covered by a rigid exoskeleton. Squid and octopus have evolved out of the rigid exoskeleton.
Types of molluscs:
snails, squids and octopus
There are about 85,000 species of molluscs are recognized and are the largest of all marine phylum.
Digestion
In the mollusk, digestion starts when the food is taken in through the baccal mass (mouth) where it passes to the radula which cuts it into small pieces. From there, the oesophagus passes it to the stomach where the nutrients are taken and absorbed into the body. Undigested waste materials are compressed and packaged and discharged through the anus.
